STRONGBACK REINFORCEMENT SYSTEM

StrongBack reinforcement system is a self-contained, water activated wrapping system that can be a permanent, high strength alternative to metal sleeves, welding and other mechanical repairs. Proper installation assures a calculable hoop strength enhancement. The material's inherent physical characteristics produce a very high post-set strength and also facilitate complete fit-up integrity and conformity between the reinforcing wrap and the pipe.

Strongback Corporation has been manufacturing its composite reinforcement sleeve – Strongback which is water activated, resin impregnated, glass fiber remediation materials. In general, the composite system is comprised of StrongBack Mastertape impregnated with urethane resin along with GS561 and/or GS154, proprietary load transfer/coating agents. Upon combination, the load from corrosion pit can be effectively transferred to composite sleeve by eliminating the moisture and oxygen migration under the sleeve.

The formulation is solvent-free to ensure safety and maximum technical performance. These tapes are cost effective, advanced alternatives to metal sleeves and offer additional advantages not generally found with sleeves - such as, application in any weather condition or element and to any part of the pipe, even joints and bends. Water and humidity does not have to delay the job. The StrongBack Composite Reinforcement System is the easily installed, cost effective solution for external pipeline remediation. The StrongBack System consists of StrongBack tape in conjunction with GS154 and/or GS561 proprietary load transfer/coating agents. This combination of StrongBack products will effectively transfer the load from the corrosion pit to the composite StrongBack sleeve, eliminating moisture and oxygen migration under the sleeve when properly applied. Repair and coating of the line is achieved in one procedure. The StrongBack System can be applied under water by a diver without the need for a habitat in most instances.

GS154 uses dual color components that turn grey, giving visual confirmation of correct mix when ready for use. GS561 is based on a unique blend of liquid epoxy polymer and aliphatic polyamine curing agents which is able to displace water from wet surfaces in order to make a permanent bond.

Kevlar fibers are incorporated for reinforcement and viscosity management to achieve high application rates even under water. GS561 uses advanced low toxicity curing agents with two color components that turn green, giving visual confirmation of correct mix when ready for use.
